Chapter 11

Previously:

I couldn't let him walk away, so instead of him always securing me, loving me and caring for me. I made sure to take a risk and not leave him like this..

Dalal: TALAL WAIT

--

Talal turned around, surprised that Dalal made the first move.

Talal: 3youna *he whispered.

Dalal: Haa?

Talal: Halla?

Dalal: Talal I MISS YOU. Ya5e int mu fahmni!! ana a7bk!! a7bk, not just as a best-friend!! You're everything to me. And the REAL reason to not wanting you in my life anymore is I know you're not going to be mine!!! Bas what you're doing!!! I can see it in your eyes that you haven't slept in days. DON'T DO THAT TO YOURSELF. In this, I AM SELFISH. I can't take the pain of knowing you'll never be mine!! So I cut you from my life, bas what you're doing to yourself, it's breaking my heart Talal, it's breaking my heart..

I was running out of breath. I was nervous and scared. How the hell did I just say this? I don't even admit this to myself when I speak to myself alone!

Talal looked, not even describable! I think he was even more surprised than me. He opened his mouth, ready to say something, but he said nothing.

--

Talal's point of view

And they ask me why I love this girl.. Well, I ask myself that! But really, this is the reason. She kept on surprising me every time we talked. I saw a side of her I've never seen before, I mean sure she tells me everything but really, she has never told me about a crush or love or anything. She doesn't even bring it up to herself! I know that for fact because I've over-heard her speaking to herself before!

But that just wasn't it, I was flowing with happiness. She made it so much easier for me, I don't have to make the first move. I want to pull her in and never let her go. But when I opened my mouth to tell her how much I love her, and how I've loved her since she helped me out that first day we met. But nothing came out. I was frozen. My brain was probably still processing this. But NO! This is not the time to be super surprised!!! She might take it wrongly..

SPEAK TALAL, SPEAK.

--

Dalal's point of view

I don't know why, I was disappointed. They say to not expect, but I couldn't help but expect this might have a fairytale ending. But no, he didn't say a thing. He didn't love me back, and now, I've lost him for good. He knows the true selfish person I am.

God dammit! I shouldn't let my self esteem get the best of me. Leave with dignity Dalal!

So I turned around, still stunned but trying to keep a head up. I got into my car, and left. Left Talal standing there. Alone.

--

When I got back to Jumeirah the first thing I did was rent an apartment, it was ready furnished so I wouldn't have to do that myself. I rented only for a month, hoping I could afford something better by then. I took the keys from the first day and stayed in for the next 2 days, the only time I went out was when I was starving and needed some food.

After two days of grief, I finally got off my lazy butt and went to the gallery. It looked owned by a very wealthy man, the marble floors were spotless, each wall was painted a different color depending on the color of the paintings and frames! It was beyond gorgeous, and breath taking. I asked to see the manager *Ahmed Al Flani* and I was escorted to his office.

Ahmed Al Flani was handsome, he looked like he was about 23. He was tanned, with light brown eyes and messy medium brown hair. He wasn't buff at all, looked from the outside to probably have a 2 pack, which wasn't bad for some guys bodies.

Ahmed Al Flani: Salalm 3alaikum!

Dalal: Wa3alaikum el salam!

We shook hands and sat down, there was an awkward silence for a few minutes. Ahmed was eyeing me strangely, I couldn't tell if why. He looked like he was analyzing my features. Suddenly, he broke the silence and asked a question that startled and confused me.

Ahmed: Ma 3arfteeni Dalal?

Chapter 10

Hello! I just wanted to say I'm sorry I don't post much and sometimes take long. It's jut because I really do spend 12 hours of my day asleep, 4-6 with my family, and 6-8 watching my TV shows :p But anyways, I'm making this post very long so enjoy it!

--

Talal's Point of View:

I was sitting down, having the last ice-cream scoop there was in the box. I had bought it for Dalal, but she's not here anymore.  I haven't left the apartment once since she left, I feel like her soul might still be with me, and I might lose it if I leave..

I could hear knocks, to be honest I really didn't want to answer. I turned my head and tried to block it out, but the person knocked again. This person just does not give up, so I stood up and reluctantly and made my way to the door. When I swung it open, ready to shout at whoever this was, I saw her. Dalal. What was she doing here? I couldn't stop staring.

No, no. I must be dreaming.

She left, right? Or was this all a big nightmare.. No no, I'm sure it's real, I can smell myself.

She stuttered, I could see she was nervous by her fast moving chest.

Dalal: Umm... Talal, I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have come. Take care.

I laughed a little on the inside, it was then I knew that she needed help. She didn't come here because she misses me, and is going back on her decision. No, she needs something.. Great.

She turned around, probably because I hadn't said a word. It made me feel bad, I had promised her that I'd always do whatever I could to make her happy, and to make sure she was doing okay.

*Flashback*

Dalal had just come to the studio that was owned by her, but occupied by me. She was crying her eyes out, she had gotten a beating last night. But what made her sadder was that Youssef was saying nasty stuff about why her father left and how it's her fault, that hurt her the most because she loved her father.

Talal: Dalal why are you crying?!

I quickly held her in my arms, and made sure she felt protected as she told me the story. It killed me to know I couldn't do anything, sometimes she'd come stay with me in the studio for a night. I'd watch her paint, and express her feelings. She was a beautiful painter, the main reason I loved living in the studio was because I use to stay up late at night and look at her paintings and admire them.

When she finished crying that night, I laid her down on the bed and laid down next to her, we were facing each other. I could see she was still hurt, her eyes were searching for answers, for love, for care, for security.

Talal: Dalal you know that I have your back right? Whatever happens, I'm here. I'm going to protect you, care for you, anything you need you ring me up.

She nodded, I could see a smile creeping up on her lips. Then her eye-lids began to shut, and she was fast asleep in a few minutes.

*End of Flashback*

I held her wrists before she turned around, and I walked back into my apartment. I was holding on extremely tight, I guess that was just because I really didn't want to let go. When I closed the door, I walked her to the couch and told her to wait. She nodded. I went and got her a mango smoothie from the fridge, which I always kept incase she dropped by. She smiled when I gave it to her. I stood there for a second watching her smile, I missed her. But she caught me so I quickly sat down and turned my head to her.

Talal: How are you?

Dalal: I'm good, and you?

She seemed uncomfortable, that I was acting like it was all okay.

Talal: I know you need something, or you wouldn't ever back out of your choice and come here to talk to me. And as I remember, I made a promise to you that I'd help you in anything? So what do you need?

She looked down, seemingly embarrassed that she's having to come to me for help. She looked at the ground for a minute or two then looked up and sighed.

Dalal: I, I need to pay for my own university. I saw my dad, but I can't ask that of him of course. I'm doing this on my own, and I need big income. I want to put my paintings in a gallery I saw, but you have the keys to my studio and well.. I can't go back to Dubai, so I came here to ask if you'd so kindly go back there and get me the paintings?

She was speaking extremely fast and I could barely catch the words jumping from her mouth. She hated that she had to ask for this, but I knew she wouldn't be able to go back there. I didn't say a word or ask for an explanation or bring up anything from the last time we saw each other, and I made sure I didn't ask for her to come back and not leave me. I just stood up, grabbed my keys and headed for the door. Before I closed it behind me, I said:

Talal: Give me 2 hours, if you want to stay here then sure, or you can come back.

After that, I left and made my way back to Dubai.

--

Back to Dalal's point of view

I spent about half an hour just thinking about everything.. How he said he knew I wouldn't come unless I needed something.. I needed him. I really really did. But I didn't know how to tell him, I didn't know how to tell him how I feel or why, because I really couldn't explain it to myself.

I cut myself from going too deep, and went to his bed to lay down, I was extremely tired for some reason. As soon as I smelled his scent, I began to cry. Tears just kept filling my eyes, I couldn't stop. I made myself comfortable, and tried to calm down, but I ended up crying silently under his covers, covering his whole bed with tears. I fell asleep after what seemed like hours..

--

Talal's point of view

I came back after 2 hours, like I had promised, but she wasn't in my living room. I checked the kitchen and she also wasn't there. I thought she had probably left and would come back later. I began to walk to my room and took my shirt off on the way.. When it was finally off of my face, I was half way in my room and on my bed was Dalal curved into a little ball under my covers. I didn't want to wake her up so I stayed quiet, went into my closet room and got a shirt and shorts. As I walked out, she was awake, wide eyed. She seemed a bit scared but relaxed once she realized it was just me.

Talal: I'm sorry for waking you.. But I got your paintings by the way.

Dalal: No, I'm sorry I lost track of time and fell asleep.. Thankyou so much Talal, this is very appreciated!

I hated it, I looked down because it was all professional talk between us. When would I ever apologize for waking her up? I use to enjoy messing around with her to wake up. And when was it okay for her to apologize about falling asleep on my bed, she's done it millions of times before! But of course, what could I say to bring her back now? To explain how I feel and hope she feels the same way? No way, then she'd NEVER want to come back for me!

She stood up, and I led her to the living room then helped her take them down to her car.

When we finished loading them in the trunk, she walked to driving seat, but turned around to look at me. She opened her mouth, but didn't say anything. I guess she also didn't know what to say, but that made me wonder in what was in her heart.. But I always cut those thoughts off, there was no way she felt the same way. I took a few seconds to take in her features once again. I could stare at her hours and still miss her beauty if I looked away.

Talal: Thankyou for thinking of me, and telling me when you needed something. You know I'm here if there's anything else at all. Take care Dalal.

She looked stunned, probably expecting something else, I just didn't know what else I could say.

She stared at me for 2 minutes, and didn't say anything. I guess she's still surprised..

But I convinced myself there was nothing else to be said, turned around and began walking away.

--

Dalal's point of view

I couldn't let him walk away, so instead of him always securing me, loving me and caring for me. I made sure to take a risk and not leave him like this..

Dalal: TALAL WAIT

Chapter 9

For anyone who didn't understand the ending to that chapter. Dalal was driving around looking at places, thinking about where she could get a job. When she drove by a art studio, something lit up in her, I guess I'll explain it more during this chapter. Think hard about how Talal and her met, maybe you'd understand why he could help.

---

I parked in the underground parking, making my way to the elevator. I pressed the worn out 14th floor button hesitantly. It was scary. Seeing Talal after only a week.. Maybe he'd think wrong of this. I contemplated going back to the Jumeirah and just finding any cashier job.. But I did need something that payed well.. And well, I had made it this far. It's not like I'll be talking about anything personal..

This was strictly business.

Tingggggg. The elevator indicated it's arrival on the floor. I walked out and knocked on his apartment door. I didn't give myself any chance to re-think my actions.

I waited 2 minutes, he didn't answer.. I knocked again, but no answer. I turned around, defeated. As I was about 2 - 3 steps ahead, walking away. The sound of the door unlocking made it's way to my ears, I turned around and found Talal staring at me. Along with the fury in his eyes, burning through my body came a disgusting stench. It smelled like rotten food, dirty socks and sweat. I was shocked at how bad he looked, he looked wrecked. I didn't think this is what it would be like if I left his life.. I hesitated to hurt him more and only speak of business. I instantly regret coming here, this was not my place..

Dalal: Umm... Talal, I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have come. Take care.

With that I turned around but didn't move, I wanted to, but it was like I was glued in my place. I stood there for what seemed like hours, but only a few seconds. The next thing I knew was Talal holding onto my wrist, and dragging me into his apartment.

Chapter 8

Hey guys! Sorry for being late. But please, I really need more feedback. I want to know if you're still interested, what you think of scenes, characters, anything that comes to your mind. This will help me improve the story, and hopefully entertain you guys better!

--

Previously:

Dalal: ba'3ait shay?

Khalid: Ee.. Stay.

I chuckled a bit more, my cheeks turning all shades of red.

--

Dalal: Umm what?

Khalid: E7m, uhh sorry, I meant if you need to talk, I know I'm a stranger ya3ni, but I'm here.
*He looked shocked himself by what he said.

Dalal: Umm, thank-you but I'd prefer to be alone.
*I didn't mean to be rude or anything, but I couldn't get to know him, I know it was a big chance and I might get attached. That was not something I could do just yet, I wasn't ready. I really did need some time alone, I needed to figure out at least what I'll be doing until the near future.

Khalid: Oh, umm sorry then. Nice meeting you Dalal.
*He smiled, looking a bit disappointed and embarrassed.

Dalal: You too.

I walked off, kind of regretting what I had done, maybe he was just trying to be friendly.. But I brushed off the second-thoughts, I couldn't do anything about it now.

I made my way to the last bench in the aisle of the floor. It was quiet, I was pretty sure no one was in these rooms because all I could hear were my heart-beats pumping at a pace that didn't seem normal. I stopped to regain my breath, but I couldn't. The bench I was walking over to seemed to be moving? How was it moving?

Is that a shadow? Is there someone here? I felt myself kneeling down, beginning to lose my balance. But I held out my hand for some help, but all I got was nothing. The next thing I saw was black, I couldn't see anything. But I was alive, inside of my body.

I had felt my head fall against the floor, causing me to flinch before blacking out. I was still hearing things, it seemed like to be a lady, what was she mumbling?

Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are?
Up above the sky so high,
Like a diamond in the sky,
Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are..

I freaked out. I don't know how but I managed to open my eyes. I tried to move to get up, but my body was paralyzed. My eyeballs were already scanning what was around me, to my surprise I was no longer in the hotel.

I was in a baby's nursery. The walls were blue, indicating it was a baby boy. It was a simple room, but against a corner was a car shaped little bed. THERE'S THAT LADY. She was singing to her baby boy while moving her hands through his hair. After she finished the song, she got up and kissed his cheeks then turned around to leave the room. She stood there and stared at me.

I blinked my eyes for help, blinked twice, three times. She was standing still, as if she was looking through thin air.

Did she not see me?

HELLO. I NEED HELP. HELP ME LADY.

I couldn't transport the words from my mind to my mouth. I closed my eyes, losing hope in her noticing my need for help.

--

- DALAL GOOMAY.

My body was being shaken, I could feel so many tears falling down my cheeks.

How did she know my name?

Wait.. That's a man.

I opened my eyes hesitantly, kind of scared of who I'd see.

It was my father. How did he get here?

Why were we still outside the restuarant?

Why are there so many people around me?

I kept the questions inside, to ask later I thought. But then shot up and stood in front of my father.

Baba: Are you okay 7abeebty?

Dalal: Eeeee, can we just go, please?

I brushed my tears off, my dad noticed how desperate I was so he held my hand and escorted me away. I could see Ghala walking behind us, she looked worried. I turned around to reassure her that I was okay. She smiled when she caught me looking at her. I let go of my fathers hand for a minute, and pulled her to walk with us. I saw my fathers face hide a smile as I bonded with his wife.

It was dead quiet as we walked, nothing. No one said anything. So I broke the silence, being the klutz that I am.

Dalal: Baba, what happened?

He looked still worried about me, thinking of what had happened.

Baba: I don't know. You started crying after telling me.. Uhm, about Youssef, then you blacked out. But you were crying while on the floor with your eyes shut. Dalal, what happened?

I didn't know how to explain it, so I didn't. I nodded, and just shook it off. My father took that as a sign to let it go.

They dropped me off at the hotel, made sure I was okay and left.

I stayed up that night thinking about my future, thinking about the weird things that have been happening.. Everything seemed to make me think of Talal. I wanted to scream to the lady to help me. But who could really help me? Oh look, I'm thinking of Talal again. I laid down and tried to sleep, I had enough regret in me. But one more thing came to my mind, Khalid. Where did he come from? Why was he in my dream? It was a dream INSIDE of a dream. It was crazy! I also considered how I was feeling.. Khalid was great, but I didn't let him in, I didn't take his offer.

Dalal: BINGO. Answer is found.
Khalid = The perfect gentlemen. He was so sweet, so caring, so loving.
Let me explain, Talal is perfect. I miss him. That's why I had the dream about Khalid. He's supposed to replace Talal. But I was hesitant and didn't want to get attached, probably because I'm still attached to Talal!

I started laughing out loud at myself, I was so deep into my thinking that I was talking to myself, answering my brains questions. It was funny how when I pretended my brain and I were separate people, I was able to answer the questions. But was that really the answer? Just replacing Talal with a man in my dreams? Why am I always back to Talal?

With that, I dozed off into deep sleep.

I woke up around 12pm. I gasped, today was my last day in the hotel. I had to go find a job, and an apartment! I jumped out of bed, got dressed and went to get a job.

What could I work? I haven't started university yet. Hmmm, what are my hobby's?

Football.. But what could I do with that? Ummm..

Ahmed AL- ****'s Art Gallery. It was like a sign from god, I knew exactly what to do. But I didn't know how to. I knew one person could help me, but I didn't know if it was the right thing to do.. Should I really be seeing Talal after what I said?

I didn't even think about it, I pulled over, turned the direction of my car, and started driving to back to Abu Dhabi.

Chapter 7

Caller: Dalal..?

I knew that voice. It was a very feminine and sweet voice. I just couldn't remember who it was.

Dalal: Meen m3ay?

Caller: Dalal, it's me, Nouf. Where are you? Everyone is worried sick about you! Youssef has been out looking for you all day.

I was laughing hysterically on the inside but kept it there. It was funny how people only realized what they had, when it's gone.

Then, I started to laugh even more when she said Youssef was looking for me. Yeah right, next she'll say he actually "cares" about me.

Dalal: Oh really? Well save him the trip, I'm not in town, and I'm not coming back. I'm done with him and all he's done to me.

I paused, about to hang up then said.

Dalal: Oh.. and tell 3ami 3eesa, umm nevermind. Just don't call me again. Goodbye Nouf.

*Goodbye Talal.
It played back in my head, but I cut myself short before over-thinking it.

I could hear Nouf breathing at the other line.
*Let me just say, Nouf is my cousin. 3ami 3eesa is her father, I've tried telling him before about Youssef, and he denied that "sweet and kind" Youssef could ever do such things. As for Nouf, she had a huge crush on the jerk face and couldn't believe it either.

She finally took a deep breath and began speaking again.

Nouf: Dalal, bla ghaba2, come back or we'll find you and bring you back forcefully.

I hung up. I had so much to say to that little cat. But I knew better. I didn't want to change my number, because I knew Talal only knew this number, I knew if it were an emergency, he'd call here, I couldn't completely leave him hanging, alone.

I went back to the hotel later, and decided to have a fancy dinner at what I had heard from the doorman to be the best Italian restaurant here. Yummy I thought, Italian was one of my favorites!

It was still 6pm, too early for dinner. But I wanted to get ready, I looked for the handbag I had brought with me and realized I hadn't brought any fancy clothes. I didn't have any time to waste to I made my way downstairs to the lobby, I knew there was a mall across the street.

I went into a few shops, until I finally found a simple dress at Miss Selfridges; http://www.ukshopsonline.net/images/DR/MissSelfridgeOchrePontiShiftDress.jpg. I then made my way back to the hotel and began to get ready.

I looked good, no one could've noticed that I've been vomiting all week. I finally realized that make-up wasn't SO useless! I took my phone, iPod, wallet and left the restaurant walking. It wasn't far away, and it was easy to find.

It was beautiful, it was a big wide space filled with circled tables. The lights in the room were orangey/yellow, the chandeliers covered most of the ceiling. I went in and took a table for two because they didn't have a table for one. I sat there staring at the second seat, Talal would always take me to fancy dinners..

FORGET ABOUT IT, AT LEAST FOR TONIGHT DALAL.

I wiped it off and ordered pizza for appetizers, and pasta for main course.

After I was done, I was full but I had to try to Gelato.. Mango Smoothies and Ice-cream were what I lived for now, so I couldn't leave without trying the Gelato. As I got up to pick the flavors, I bumped into a man while fixing my dress.

I looked up embarrassed and quickly apologized, but then I caught a glimpse of his face. I hadn't payed any attention to who I was looking at in the beginning, it was blurry. But now, I knew who it was. I couldn't forget my father.. Even if he had left a few years ago.

--
Dalal: BABA?
Father (Zaid): DALAL?
Both at the same time.

I quickly remembered we were in a public area and lowered my voice, but before I could speak I saw a blonde woman tugging onto his arm. I fought back my tears.

Dalal: Oh.

I turned my head, about to walk away, but he gripped his hands on my wrists. I looked up at his eyes, those light brown eyes that I looked up to all my life. I wanted to scream, I wanted to hug him, I had missed him since he left. I wanted to tell him all that Youssef did to me. I could've blurted it all out in the next few minutes, but I held myself content.

Baba: Dalal.. Hathi murti.

Dalal: Mar7aba.

I barely spit out the words, but I couldn't disappoint him now. I knew I never had a real mother, mine never really loved me.. Maybe I should give my step-mother a chance. I really did need some people by MY side.

I knew I was taking a risk, and I knew this would surprise him, but I couldn't miss my chance.

Dalal: Baba, umm.. mm.. Baba.. Mmkn I sit ma3akm? We catch up? I miss you, and I'd like to get to know 5alti.

I smiled at her, this time a welcoming and heart warming smile.

Baba was confused, but she took control fast.

5alti: ee 7abeebty, yallah come sit. Have you already eaten?

Dalal: Eee.

Baba still looked very confused.

When we first sat down, I began getting to know her.

Dalal: Umm 3afwan, bs shnu esmich?

5alti: Ana esmi Ghala

Dalal: Wln3m.

I kept asking her about her life, she wasn't married before. My dad was her first, and they didn't have any kids because she's unable to have any and they learned to live with that. They looked like a genuinely happy couple.. My dad was still a little tensed, but he loosened up soon. Then he finally asked.

Baba: Keef umich, w Youssef? Enti shnu tsaween hni?

Dalal: Mmkn agool ay shay gdam 5alti Ghala?

My dad nodded, and I began. I couldn't stop myself, he was back to my loving dad, I could see he was a bit worried through his eyes.

Dalal: Baba, umy kla 6al3a. She's out until late at night, w mat3rf shay y79l fl bait, I told her lakn she doesn't believe me.

I stopped, a tear was rolling down my cheeks.

Dalal: Yuba yoom ma you left, Youssef started coming home drunk, and beating me up.. He said I was the reason you left, that you hated me. I went to the hospital a few times because of how badly beaten I was. But that didn't stop me, w I didn't do anything. I tried telling my uncles, w klhom 6l3o mn el salfa or they didn't believe me. Bas yuba, ana yeet hni bdoon ma agool, 5athait a'3ra6'i w 6l3t. Yuba 4 days ago, Youssef.. Youssef, he, he raped me.

His eyeballs shot out, he stood up, paid the check then grabbed me outside the restaurant with him. 5alti Ghala followed but stayed out of our way.

Baba: Hal 7achi mu l3b?

I began sobbing, could he really believe I would lie or joke about this?

But he saw me sobbing, and I guess he realized I wasn't lying. He took me into his arms and caressed my back slowly, telling me to calm down. I slowly let go, and told him I needed time and excused myself to head back to the hotel.

Baba: ya3ni enti mu raj3a?

I nodded.

Dalal: Ana gltlk l2ni I need someone to believe me.. W because I miss you. But I'll never go back there, no matter what. W yuba if you go back, don't tell them where I am. I'm done, I'm going to work here 5alas, and pay for my own university.

I left, without another word, just an approving look from my father.

I was still crying, I couldn't stop. How come this kept happening?

*STOP CRYING DALAL, MAN UP.

Even my inner self knew what the best thing to do was..

I walked into the elevator and pressed the 14th floor, I wasn't on that floor, I was on the 15th, but I needed to remember something from Talal. I needed him, but I couldn't have him here, so I tried my best to have him at heart. But I was startled when I was tapped on the shoulder, I had forgotten I was crying like a baby in public, and I barely noticed anyone in the elevator.

I looked behind me to find a young man, about 20-22 years old, he was my age. He had tanned skin, it was obvious he DIDN'T work out, but that was good because his body structure was already fit. He had dark brown eyes. Filled cheeks, which I loved, and dimples.

Young man: Lawsama7tay?

I sniffed.

Dalal: Mmm?

I looked up, and wiped some tears from my eyes. Then I looked higher, and our eyes locked. I smiled, against my will, but I smiled.

Dalal: Can I help you with something?

Still smiling.

*STOP SMILING DALAL, YOU'RE EMBARRASSING YOURSELF!

Still smiling.

Young Man: I'm.....

He was looking straight into my eyes, he didn't finish his sentence but he extended his hand for me to shake.

I chuckled.

Dalal: You're name issss?

Young man: Uhh what? Oh, yeah I'm Khalid.

I extended my hand as well and shook his hand while saying.

Dalal: and I'm Dalal, nice to meet you Khalid!

Khalid: 3ashat elasami.

Dalal: 3ashat ayamk.

I was still smiling, we were both just smiling. The elevator made a noise indicating to leave the elevator. We completely forgot we had arrived. Just as I was about to leave, he tightened his grip around my hand.. Myself completely also forgetting my hand in his.

Dalal: ba'3ait shay?

Khalid: Ee.. Stay.

I chuckled a bit more, my cheeks turning all shades of red.

It's been three days, three days of living on junk food and room service. I haven't left the room, not once. All I've done is eat, vomit, cry, eat, vomit, cry, sleep and start again. I knew it wasn't healthy, but I just didn't know what to do. Thinking about it made tears fall down, again. I laid down, trying to calm myself down then dozed off into deep sleep.

I was wearing my "I Love London" green jumper. It was my favorite, and I'd spent my best and worst days in it, not that there many good days.. I was wearing it with grey sweatpants, and my White&Green Air Jordan sneakers.

It was Friday, the first day of summer, the last summer while knowing i'd be going back to school. I was done with 11th grade.

I made my way to Starbucks with the driver, one more year until I began to drive. I ordered my cold mango smoothie (I don't think that's an actual drink in Starbucks so please don't ask :p) and grabbed a seat to sit down for a bit. I was thinking about the song I wanted to play on my iPod, but realized I forgot it at the counter. When I went back there was a guy holding it, trying to figure out who owned it.

Me: E7m..

Stranger: Yes?

Me: That's mine. *Taking my iPod from his hands.

Then I made my way back to my table without another word, and he was just silent. When I began blasting my music, I looked around to find him on the couch behind me.. Alone, wearing one of the saddest face expressions I've ever seen. I hated myself for it, but I always felt the need to help everyone. It was a good thing, but sometimes it just got out of hand. Yet I got up with my drink, pausing my iPod and sat in front of him.

Dalal: E7m again *Smirking

Stranger: Yes?

Pause.

I was thinking of what to say.

Stranger: Did you lose your seat?

HOLD UP, ANOTHER PAUSE.

Why am I helping this guy that sounds like a total jerk?

I cursed myself then began moving up, but he held me down and asked it in a kinder tone.

Stranger: Can I help you with anything?

Dalal: Well it's quite the opposite.. I'm Dalal. Umm.. I saw you here alone, and you looked really sad so I thought I'd come and ask you what's wrong and if I could help.

He huffed. Then his eyes darted towards the door, and I felt his muscles stiffen, he had a worried expression in his eyes when he saw who just walked in.

I turned around to find a man in his late 50's. He looked furious.. I couldn't really understand what was happening, but I could see that the stranger was scared of him, so he must've done something wrong I thought.

The old man began making his way to our table. The stranger looked towards me and asked me to play along and that he'll explain later. I didn't know what to do, before I could ask what he meant, or think about it. The old man was at our table.

Old man: Talal, how dare you walk out like that while speaking to your mother?

I was surprised to see that the stranger talked fluent English. He turned towards me, and noticed his words. So he quickly began speaking in Arabic, thinking I wouldn't understand because I didn't look Arab.

Old man: Hathi umik, lazim it5aleeha foog rasik.. W enta mu mra7ab fe hatha el bait etha ma e3tithart leha w 7abait'ha 3ala ras'ha.

Talal: Tihtam feeha haa? Minchithee tizawajt'a mara thanya?

The old man seemed humiliated by Talal's words. But more than humiliation, I saw two emotions glowing from his eyes. Shame, shame of his sons words, he HAD made the wrong choice. Anger, anger of his sons disrespect.

I don't know why, but I had to jump in and save him.

Dalal: 3ami itha mat'mani3, wa8ti ma7dood w ana w Talal lazim itabi3 ijtima3na.

He looked at me with embarrassment, seeing that I talk arabic and he had said all that.

He nodded and made his way out of the cafe. I kneeled down to grab my stuff from the table, preparing to leave. But Talal called me.

Talal: Thankyou so much for that. I know you had to make that up on spot umm.. Dalal.

Dalal: Your welcome, you seemed like you needed a way out of that.

He smiled at me, a whole-hearted smile, it was warm and loving. But I tried brushing the shivers off, and began to walk away then looked back.

Dalal: Umm, Talal right?

He nodded, still smiling.

Dalal:  If you need to get away from the house again, I can give you a lift to a studio, there's a bed there, I use it when I need to get away, I don't mind you staying there.

He lifted his head, looking at me thankfully. Then picked up his keys, and give me an attractive side smile complimenting his pearly teeth.

Talal: Should I follow your car there?

--

I woke up sweating. At first I thought it was probably just dried up tears off of my bed, but I was sweating and my face was red. I went and took a shower, and then made my way out of the hotel for the first time in days.

I walked outside, I had my car keys but I felt like taking a walk. There was a park not far from the hotel, so I went there and sat on the bench.

Of course, nothing came to my mind except for Talal. That dream had brought back memories, that was how Talal and I met. I began to think about how I saved Talal. At first, he was the miserable one. Yes, I was getting weekly beatings, but when I made him smile, I felt like my life was worthy. It's funny how it became the opposite and he always got stuck fixing my life.

I was caught off-guard when my phone began to ring, it wasn't Talal. But I was surprised, because he was the only one with my new number.

I took a glance at the number, but didn't recognize it, which didn't quite surprise me because I have bad memory.

I picked up, kind of nervous as to who was calling me.

Dalal: Aloo -In a confused but held together tone.

Chapter 5

I stood in my place, knife under the table so he wouldn't see it. I stared at him, he was looking right back at me. It was like a staring contest, but I knew both of us could see so much more than just the person who is sitting/standing in front of us. We were looking through each other, I don't know if we were searching for answers, searching for comfort, security, it all seemed needed.

After what seemed like hours, I broke the silence.

Dalal: Umm.. Mm.. Ta.. Umm no.. Hmm.. Talal.

He had looked away for a few seconds but shot right back at me.

Talal: Na3am?

Dalal: I don't want this life for you. -I tried to keep as serious, and non emotional I could be. I tried to hold it together, and not breaking into a million pieces.

Talal: What do you mean?

I took a long pause, to think about what I was going to say, and how to say it.

I could practically hear his heart beating, I didn't know how but he sensed the hurt he would be caused in the next few minutes.

Yet I continued. It's better to hurt him now and he gets over it, then to attach him more and he never forgets it.

Dalal: Talal, I don't know where I'm off to. But I'm leaving, I'll find a job, and pay for my own university fees. I'm going to start my own life now, this is it. You can't be a part of it.

Silence.

Dalal: Talal, I'm sorry but I won't drag you through this hell hole with me. You deserve better than this life, having to constantly worry about if I'm okay, having to constantly take care of me and hold me in your arms.

Silence.

Dalal: You mean more to me than everything and anyone I've ever known. You Talal, you're going to go somewhere. You're 20 years old, go out and live your life. Get married! Start a family, and forget about me. Forget about the day we met, it's all over.

I paused. I stuck the knife back into the counter, trying to hold back the thoughts of taking my own life, then walked over to the couch where he was concentrating on my words, too engrossed in his thoughts to notice me walk over to him.

I held his hand and brought him up. I looked deeply into his eyes and said "the" 3 words, "the" 8 letters, the strongest phrase there is.

"I love you".

I hugged him, thinking this would be the last time I'm in Talal's arms. So I held on, I didn't want to let go, I hugged as tightly as one as can hug, I tugged onto his shirt and took in his sent.

A few minutes passed, seeming to be hours that we were standing in the middle of the apartment. So I took control, and let go. I looked up at him and I could see he was fighting back the tears, he was trying to hold the image of a man by staying strong.

I gave him a peck on the cheek, took my mango smoothie off of the table, and made my way to the door.

Dalal: Take care Taloo *pronounced 6aloo*. Goodbye.

I walked back to my car, started my engine and headed back on the road. I still didn't know where I could go that I wouldn't be found. Not by Youssef, not by Talal, no one. I was lost, but if I were to find my way, it'd be somewhere only I could know the directions for.

I was still holding myself together, fighting off the tears. Fighting back the image of his muscular figure,  his black short messy hair, his flawless teeth, everything about him was a memory now. There wasn't any going back.

I arrived to a petrol station and filled my car with gas. I then entered Burger King and bought a whopper meal, I sat down and ate it there because I couldn't eat a burger while driving. When I was done within 10 minutes, I stopped by the super market for some junk food and drinks. I put it all next to me in the car, and started my drive to Jumeirah. *Sorry if I spelled it wrong, I don't live in UAE so I'm not sure about these things*.

John Mayer was blasting through the speakers throughout the whole ride, so when I found a nice looking and comfortable hotel, I had calmed down and stopped crying, I stuffed my junk food in my bag and went down. I took a room for a week, so I can get myself together.

After I got comfortable in my room, I took a shower, then laid in bed checking my phone before I collapsed.

0 Missed Calls. 0 Messages.

It hurt a little, even though I had walked out, I had left, I would've loved it if Talal had ran after me, had come looking for me.. But I brushed it off and dozed off since it was around 9pm.
